1) Hello and welcome to the HentaiFR website, can you introduce yourself?
Hello! My name is Dustin, but on the internet and within the illustration world I go by Davvworlds.
2) How long have you been drawing?
I have technically been drawing since I can remember, but I took it much more seriously over the last 7 years or so, really trying to focus on how to get my drawings to look like my favorite artists.
3) What was your first inspiration for drawing?
I always drew Batman as a kid, then got into Dragon Ball Z and started only drawing Goku and friends. I used to draw a lot of cool characters from all sorts of things. I would print out pictures of characters from anime and western comics and try to draw them as accurately as I could. I did that for a long time. I just thought looking at cool characters was so great, I’d feel an urge to try to draw them. Then I started getting more into anime art, and a friend mentioned how I never drew female characters, so I started only practicing female characters and became obsessed with illustrators ability to create cute/beautiful/pretty/sexy, etc. girls. I am now most inspired by the human shape, girls mostly. It’s actually the face that intrigues me the most, to be honest.
4) Draw exclusively from the NSFW or do you also draw SFW? What do you prefer?
I draw mostly SFW works these days. I am just trying to broaden my range. I want to make graphic novels/mangas with a friend who writes and comes up with amazing ideas. I also like to draw at work when I get some free time, so that’s always, and literally, SFW. I don’t really have a preference. I don’t like my art very much, but when I see a beautiful drawing, as long as I love the shapes and colors and overall design of a work, I don’t really care if it’s safe or not. I do love the female body though. So that is always fun to draw and try to figure out the tiny, unnoticed things that really make it so beautiful. It’s a shame there is so much shame around it.
5) When creating a drawing, what is your favorite moment?
My favorite moment is either finishing a sketch by putting the final touches in, like getting the eyes in the perfect spot or finishing up a good outfit or getting the weight of the breasts right, etc. Whatever is like, the final touch before I feel it’s complete and ready for line art. That, or certain parts of the line art. Doing the curves of the skin/body where you use the line width to really portray the perfect shapes, or getting in and doing very fine detailing in the hair can be really fun. Or coloring the eyes… or shaping the eyes…
6) What material do you use to draw?
I either do mostly pencil with some ink pen in my sketchbook that I always bring with me, or I’m at home using PainTool SAI and my Wacom Cintiq 13HD. I do miss doing fully rendered traditional drawings, but I’m addicted to digital now. Sometimes I find myself reaching to hit control-z with my left hand when drawing in my sketchbook and I don’t like a line I made, then I get super frustrated that I can’t undo it haha.
7) In your art, what is your biggest dream?
Being able to quit my stupid job working with morons, for morons, doing pointless things that don’t matter at all. I want to have published graphic novels/mangas, published art books, commissions that I enjoy doing for a decent amount, so I can pay my damn bills without wasting my life. But really, at this point, I want to get invited to cons as a featured artist, then meet fans who simply enjoy my art, and not just because I drew a popular character. I want them to request I draw them my own characters, like you would if you met Tite Kubo, or Tiv, or any mangaka, really. Also, I really want to be hired to do at least one death metal album art cover.. but I know that’s a very different style than ecchi girls haha.
8) A funny anecdote about your drawings?
I don’t have too many funny stories, I am very cautious and aware of where I am drawing and who might see. I do really enjoy telling normal people, who don’t really even know what anime/manga is about the strange things I’ve been hired to draw for people. They think I’m such a normal person, who surely isn’t into hentai or anything of the sort, then I tell them I was hired to draw a naked frog girl, or the stranger things I had to refuse. They get really weirded out. I love it.
9) What do you think of the place of the Hentai in France?
I don’t really know much about it, unfortunately. I know (or have heard) that French are much more accepting of sexuality than here in the U.S. I would hope that it’s has a decent number of people interested, and more who don’t care or judge. In the U.S. it is very taboo, as are most sexual things. I like to see successful artists doing it for a living, and being from countries other than Japan.
10) What do you think of the Hentai website and its initiative to promote Hentai and Ecchi culture by introducing independent artists like you?
I think it’s great! It’s hard to find good illustrators of the sort without being on Pixiv. Too many other places fail to source back to the artist. They just look at the picture and think it is cool, and never credit the artist. Then when you get people like me, I find an image I really like on Pinterest, I can’t find the artist who created it. I like to see more sites like this that help get exposure to artist without it being all about fan-art that is safe for work and only meant to gather the largest audience. Hentai/ecchi artists spend just as much time honing their skills but reach such a small audience that it can be discouraging and makes them want to quit. Keep up the good work and I look forward to finding new artists to support by frequenting your website.
